Shelly Short, long-time resident of Stevens County, has formally announced her candidacy for the Washington State House of Representatives, District 7, Position 1.

Short, a Republican, is certainly no stranger to the Seventh District and its issues. For the last 14 years, she has managed district offices in Colville for former Congressman George Nethercutt and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris-Rodgers. She also managed State Representative Joel Kretz’s Colville and Olympia offices as his Senior Legislative Assistant.

“I’m humbled by the tremendous encouragement I’ve received from citizens and community leaders all across the district to run for the seat Rep. Bob Sump is leaving. For the past 14 years, I’ve been the person folks come to for help. People know my work ethic, knowledge of issues and track record in getting things done,” said Short.

Rep. Bob Sump has endorsed Short to succeed him for the House seat he has held for 12 years. “Shelly knows the ropes,” Sump said, “she will be an effective state representative from day one.”

Short has worked extensively on regulatory issues at the state and federal levels, especially those affecting small business, private property, agriculture, water, timber, forest health and wildfire fighting, economic development, power generation, and recreation. She has extensive experience helping citizens navigate federal and state government that is crucial to effectively representing the Seventh District in Olympia.

“My experience will allow me to hit the ground running,” stated Short.
