A 17-year-old Brewster youth charged as an adult with attempted first-degree murder has pleaded not guilty to allegations that he planned to bring guns to Chelan High School and open fire.

Charles T. Mustoe entered his plea Thursday in Superior Court. He remains in the Okanogan County Juvenile Detention Center on $500,000 bail.

Police were alerted Feb. 27 to a Facebook conversation between Mustoe and a 14-year-old girl in British Columbia.
Prosecutors say the conversation discussed an attack planned for April 12, 2011 - the 12-year anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings in Colorado.

Public defender Michael Haas says he's disappointed prosecutors are charging Mustoe with attempted murder - and as an adult.

Haas says his biggest problem with the approach is that "treatment options are significantly limited compared to what's available in the juvenile court system."

Prosecutors allege Mustoe came up with the plan after being bullied by eight other boys.
