10 Local Schools Selected for Achievement Awards from State Board of Education

Schools that profoundly affect student learning are being awarded for their efforts state wide.

A total of 174 schools are receiving Washington Achievement Awards for 2009, including 10 schools within our area.

The awards are being given by the State Board and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

State Superintendent Randy Dorn said, “We’re proud of these schools.” He said, “They’re showing that great gains can be made for all students.”

The Achievement Awards are being given in several categories. In the Overall Excellence category the local winners include Bridgeport High School, Tonasket High School, Curlew Elementary and High School, Liberty Bell Junior Senior High, Pateros Elementary and High School and Chelan High School.

In the Language Arts category the local winners were Bridgeport High School, Chelan High School, Republic High School and Quincy High School.

The winners in the Extended Graduation Rates category were Pateros High School, Curlew High School, Ephrata High School and Cashmere High School.

Dorn said the schools will be recognized at celebrations around the state on May 5, 2010.
