The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission Folk Arts in the Parks Program invites the public to Fiesta Latina at Pearrygin Lake State Park, near Winthrop. All are welcome to this free event.

The Latino cultural celebration runs from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, on the lakeshore of Pearrygin Lake in Pearrygin Lake State Park east campground area. The event features local musicians from eastern Washington, traditional food available for purchase by Carlos 1800 Mexican Grill & Cantina and folk artist Eva Castellanoz. To access the event, enter Pearrygin Lake State Park from the east campground entrance.

The schedule of performances includes:
• 1 p.m. – Berrinche Norteño, conjunto norteño (Mexican folk ensemble) from the Okanogan Valley
• 2 p.m. – Los Bailadores del Sol, folklórico dancers from the Yakima Valley
• 3 p.m. – Mariachi Estrella de México, mariachi band from the Wenatchee Valley

Eva Castellanoz, nationally recognized Smithsonian folk artist, will demonstrate the art of wax and paper flower making. Castellanoz is a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts’ prestigious National Heritage Fellowship, which recognizes lifetime achievement of artistic excellence and contributions to our nation's traditional arts heritage.

The Washington State Parks Folk Arts fiesta is part of a broader series of events celebrating Washington's diverse cultures. The Folk and Traditional Arts in the Parks Program is a partnership between the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission and the Washington State Arts Commission. Fiesta Latina is sponsored in part by Winthrop Kiwanis Foundation and Carlos 1800 Mexican Grill & Cantina. Additional funding support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Washington State Parks Foundation through a program grant and an Arts and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Grant “economic stimulus” grant.

Fiesta Latina is accessible to persons with disabilities. If special accommodations are required in order to attend, please call (509) 429-6808, (509) 996-2370 or (800) 833-6388. Those who are hearing-impaired or speech-impaired may call the Washington Telecommunications Relay Service at (800) 833-6388. Requests must be made in advance.
Pearrygin Lake State Park is a 96-acre camping park in the Methow Valley in north central Washington. The park features expansive green lawns leading to 11,000 feet of waterfront on Pearrygin Lake. The lake offers swimming, fishing and boating.
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission thanks the public for supporting state parks. Donations made to State Parks through the vehicle license tab renewal program starting with September 2009 renewals will keep state parks open in the 2009-2011 budget cycle, provided adequate revenues are collected. The Commission manages a diverse system of more than 100 state parks and recreation programs, including long-distance trails, boating safety and winter recreation. The 96-year-old park system will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2013.
