Prescribed fire personnel will be working on several areas of the district as burn season continues in the Methow Valley. Units which could be burned today include South Gold and Gold, both are activity and natural landscape burns located in the Gold Creek area about 5 miles W/NW of Methow.
Other areas under consideration for prescribed burning this spring include; two units in the McFarland Creek drainage (Hungry Hunter and McFarland), two units in the Twisp River drainage (Deer Cr., Shady 7) located 8-10 west of Twisp near Little Bridge Creek, two units in the South Summit area (Yockey Cr. and Jay Ridge) located 7 miles east of Carlton, two units in the Squaw Cr. drainage located 5 miles west of Methow, and one unit in Black Canyon (Woody Cr.) located 7 miles west of Pateros. A portion of Jay Ridge was ignited earlier this week and there will be continued ignitions on this unit as weather allows.
Some units which have been ignited by prescribed fire crews earlier this week and are in patrol status are Dry Cow and Little Coal II; both located 8 miles up the Twisp River west of Twisp.
There will be no new ignitions after Wednesday and over the 49er’s Weekend.
On ignition days residual smoke could linger for several days in the burn areas as heavier fuels continue to burn inside the units. When driving in these areas beware of fallen trees and rocks that may be in the roadway.
