Aeneas Valley Home Destroyed by Fire

Monday at 11:30am, fire destroyed the trailer home of Doug and Sherry Powell, located at 9 Whitman Spur Road, near Doe Mountain in Aeneas Valley.

Scott Miller, Okanogan County Emergency Management Director said that Sherry Powell told authorities that she was boiling water, and went outside to gather additional fuel for her wood stove, when she heard a pop. Miller said, after that the residence was quickly engulfed in flames.

He said, the home was a total loss, including several of the couple’s pets that were inside the trailer.

Doug Powell was not home at the time, and Sherry Powell was not injured.

Miller said the cause of the fire is unknown, but presumed to be accidental.

Friends of the Powells have offered the use of another trailer for a temporary residence. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide assistance with food and clothing.

The Powell’s five other dogs were saved from the fire. The Powell’s are in need of additional food, clothing, and dog food.

Miller said the quick response by fire agencies, including Fire District #16 and DNR ground crews along with a helicopter prevented the fire from spreading into the wildland areas.
