A 22-year-old Pateros man is in Central Washington Hospital today after being shot by his father during a heated argument Tuesday evening.

Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers said 22-year-old Weldon Darlington underwent surgery Tuesday night. He said his condition is unknown, but family members at the hospital told him that he would survive.

Rogers said Darlington had gotten into a verbal argument with his father 50-year-old Derik R. Darlington. The Sheriff said, " It then turned into a physical altercation between the father and son." He said "At some point the two separated and Derik Darlington pulled a gun, " a .44 caliber handgun.

Rogers said, Weldon Darlington then told his father to go ahead and shoot him, so the man did, hitting him in the stomach and exiting through his side and out his arm. Weldon Darlington then walked to his grandparents' house and called 911 to report the shooting.

Rogers said, Weldon Darlington was driven to the Three Rivers Hospital in Brewster by an unknown subject and dropped off. Derik Darlington arrested without incident at his home at 180 Ives Street in Pateros. He was booked into the Okanogan County Jail on charges of First Degree Assault.
