Assault in Tonasket Leaves One Mad Dead

An assault Saturday, at a restaurant in Tonasket led to the death of a 57-year-old man. 

Okanogan County Sheriff Tony Hawley said deputies and Lifeline Ambulance were called to the Round-up Café about 5:30pm for the report of an assault with a 57-year-old man covered in blood.  He said when first responders arrived, the victim was found deceased.

Hawley said, based on previous contacts at this location, Deputy Ricardo Covarrubias was familiar with those at the location and recognized the reported suspect.  He was able to obtain information about the location where the suspect had fled.  

Saturday night Sgt Ted Shook and Deputy Cody Lunn were able to locate 34-year-old Antonio Mateo in the Loomis area.  He was arrested and booked into the Okanogan County Jail for Murder in the 1st degree.  Hawley said, “We are working with the Okanogan County Coroner Rodriguez to complete the next of kin notification of the deceased male.”
