Chopaka Road to Close for Three Months

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced the temporary closure of nine miles of Chopaka Road near the Loomis State Forest. The closure will begin on Thursday, June 17. The closure is expected to last for three months.

“The same route will be closed as it was in May and will be clearly marked, so visitors know where to go,” said Pat Ryan, Northeast Region Assistant Manager. “The route takes users up Toats Coulee to Nine Mile Road and then down to Chopaka Lake.”

“It is essential that we take an active part in managing our state land to mitigate fire and disease risk as much as we can. This closure will aid that effort.”

Forest management operations in the area are related to the Grandview Forest Health Timber Sale.

The detour route is approximately eight miles longer than the direct Chopaka Road route and DNR asks that visitors plan accordingly.
