Colville Tribal Councilman Resigns Following Rape Arrest

Feb 20, 2014

A high-ranking member of the Colville Tribal Council resigned Tuesday following his arrest on a rape charge in North Idaho.

Ernest “Sneena” Brooks III, vice chairman of the Colville Business Council, represented the Omak district. He stepped down for personal reasons, the tribal chairman’s office said Thursday.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Brooks was arrested at the Coeur d’Alene Casino Friday, February 14, 2014.  He posted a $5,000 bond and was released from the Kootenai County Jail the same day.

Brooks was named vice chairman of the tribal council last July and also was selected to chair the Tribal Government Committee. He has served on the council since 2011.

The Colville Business Council will meet today to determine who will fill the vacancy.
