Conservation District Assisting with Landowner Recovery from Carlton Complex

Aug 06, 2014

Okanogan Conservation District continues to take information from landowners whose natural resources and agricultural infrastructure has been damaged by the Carlton Complex wildfires.  Please contact the District with specific descriptions about natural resource damages and concerns such as flooding and erosion. Filling out a Restoration Needs Form will help the District demonstrate to potential funders what kind of assistance is needed to help private landowners recover from this disaster.

Landowners can contact the Okanogan Conservation District at the following locations to communicate their natural resource and ag infrastructure damage and restoration needs:

(509) 422-0855 ext 5

USDA Service Center (back entrance), 1251 S. 2nd Ave, Room 102, Okanogan WA

The District is acting as a clearinghouse for private landowners seeking assistance with issues such as restoration of grazing lands, repair of fences, repair of irrigation systems, restoration of riparian trees and shrubs, general reseeding, or erosion control.  In the forested areas, issues may also include removal or chipping of burned materials, erosion control and replanting. At this time, there are limited funds available; however, the District is actively working with other natural resource and agriculture groups to locate additional sources of both technical and financial assistance for private landowners.
