Controlled Burn Escapes Burns Several Acres

May 04, 2015

Fire Crews were called to a grass fire about 9:30am this morning near B&O road and Spring Coulee Road south of Okanogan.

Omak Fire Chief Kevin Bowling said the first fire started from a controlled burn that got away.  He said that fire was about 4 acres in size.

Crews got that fire out and were released about noon today, but he said they were called back about 1:21 pm for a second fire.  That fire burned another 2 to 3 acres of grass and sage brush.  Bowling said they did not know if that fire was a hot spot reigniting or if the people started their controlled burn again.

No structures were threatened or damaged.

Crews from Omak, Okanogan, Malott and Fire Districts 7, 8 and 9 all responded.
