Extra Patrols Helpful Over Stampede Weekend

With extra people in town for the Stampede Rodeo and Suicide Race, Omak Police Department had their hands full last weekend. They worked with Colville Tribal Police, Okanogan County Sheriff Deputies, and Phoenix Security to make sure the event was safe for everyone.

A concerned citizen reported that juveniles were causing trouble on August 10th at Civic League Park. Six juvenile males were found in the park after the park was closed. An Officer detected an odor of Marijuana and after questioning the juveniles two juveniles were cited for possession of marijuana. One juvenile was in possession of 1.5 grams of marijuana and the other juvenile had 3.9 grams of marijuana. A glass pipe, metal pipe and grinder were also found.

In the early morning hours on August 12th, Officers questioned five juvenile males by the Omak Information Center and found them to be showing signs of having consumed alcohol. Those signs included: the smell of alcohol on their breath and glossy eyes. Evidence of alcohol consumption was nearby. Three juveniles were cited for an MIP and released to an adult, and two juveniles were booked into Okanogan County jail for Minor in Possession.

An investigation is on going to find out how the juveniles obtained the alcohol and marijuana. Those found to be providing to a minor “Under 21” face $5000 in fines and up to a year in jail. If you suspect someone is providing alcohol to minors please call 826-0383.
