Fatal accident claims Tonasket High School Grad

A Tonasket high School graduate, 23-year old Brett B Hendrick, of East Wenatchee,is dead after his motorcycle was hit head on by a pickup on the Eastmont Extension Thursday afternoon around 12-20p.m.

Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal says the accident happened about 500 yards east of the intersection with Highway 2/97.

The Sheriff reports that witnesses say a westbound pickup truck crossed the double yellow line and hit the eastbound motorcycle head on. The driver of the pickup continued through the intersection before coming to a stop due to damage from the accident.

Hendrick was taken to Confluence Hospital in Wenatchee, but died from his injuries.

The driver of the pickup, a 78 year-old Joseph E. Strutzel of Monitor, was arrested for Hit and Run. Gjesdal says the ultimate charging decision will be made by the Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney.
