The former manager of Baines Title & Escrow in Okanogan was arrested Wednesday evening on theft charges.
Following a two month investigation, 44-year-old Laura Diane VanBrunt, formerly Moomaw, was arrested Wednesday night at her home.
Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers said the investigation went back to 2011. He said it appears that between 2011 and 2012 VanBrunt had alledgedly been stealing from Baines Title for her personal uses, which included trips, vacations, gas, food, car repairs, etc. He said the expense totaled more than $28,000.
Rogers said "VanBrunt had worked at Baines Titles for years and was pretty much trusted by everyone at the business."
VanBrunt was booked into the Okanogan County Jail on charges of First Degree Theft. The Sheriff said they are also asking the Prosecutor's Office to review the case for possible Embezzlement charges.
