Keller Ferry out of service for repairs this weekend

Oct 03, 2014

Weekend drivers who planned on using the Keller Ferry to cross the Columbia River via State Route 21 will need to find another route.

The Keller Ferry will be out of service starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, for hull repairs. Service is anticipated to resume on Monday, Oct. 6, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Over the weekend, vessel builder Foss Maritime of Seattle will make permanent repairs to a 1 ¾ inch-long hairline crack located on the port side of the vessel. The crack was discovered over the summer by WSDOT ferry operators.

Vessel builder, Foss Maritime of Seattle, will complete the repairs under warranty. A team from the Washington State Ferries Vessel Engineering Division will monitor the work. Final approval of the repairs must be issued by the U.S. Coast Guard before the ferry can return to service.
