Newby Lake Fire Update 7/5

Jul 05, 2015

The Newby Lake wildfire, in Canada and the Pasayten Wilderness, is estimated at about 445 acres.  The portion of the fire in the United States is on the North Face of Arnold Peak.

Yesterday, most of the active burning on the Newby Lake Fire was to the north and northwest.  The fire continues to hold on the North Face of Arnold Peak; consuming available fuels and extinguishing itself where vegetation is sparse.

An area closure is in place for the northern three miles of Pasayten Wilderness from its eastern boundary to the Haig Mountain area.  Hikers inside the closure area are being advised.

BC Wildfire Service indicates the cause of the Newby Lake fire to be Lightning.

US Forest Service is working closely with our partners at BC Wildfire Service and Washington State Department of Natural Resources to coordinate wildfire response and public information.  Additional information, including maps and photos, is at inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4355/ or  bcwildfire.ca.
