Nine Mile Fire Over 100 Acres

Aug 13, 2015

Several fires ignited this afternoon off the Chesaw Road in the Nine Mile area east of Oroville.  Fire officials now say that fire has grown to over 100 acres.  Additional resources have been ordered and a Type 3 management is being called up to take control of the blaze that was growing rapidly in the hot dry conditions.

Okanogan County officials began issuing immediate evacuation notices for residents around 3pm Thursday.  Residents on Nine Mile Road, Wagon Wheel Road, Old Tressle Road, Point Drive and Circle Road were notified that they should leave immediately.  Over 20 structures were threatened by the blaze.

Late Thursday afternoon officials closed the Oroville Chesaw Road between milepost 4 and milepost 9.  There was no word as to when the road would reopen.

At least 12 engines, two helicopters, 2 small aircraft and a heavy air tanker were fighting the blaze.
