Nine Omak Businesses pass liquor compliance checks

Omak Police Department teamed up with Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) during an undercover effort to ensure local businesses were properly checking identification prior to liquor sales this weekend.

A total of 10 Omak businesses were checked for compliance. Omak Police and WSLCB found only 1 Omak businesses non-compliant with state liquor sales laws.

The names of the non-compliant businesses will not be released. The WSLCB will take an administrative action against the non-compliant business, and the employee was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor (RCW 66.44.270 (1)), which is a gross misdemeanor and punishable up to a year in jail and a $5000 fine.

Businesses in violation of liquor sales laws can be issued a violation in the form of a fine, 5- 30 day license suspension or both. Repeat violations can result in a liquor license being revoked. Omak Businesses in compliance with Washington State liquor sales laws include: Walmart, Safeway, Rite Aid, El Portal Restaurant, Exxon, Stampede Mini Market, Gene's Harvest Foods, Chevron, and Caso's.

Omak Police Department is committed to enforcing underage drinking laws in Omak. They will continue to enforce Washington State alcohol sales laws by continuing to conduct compliance checks in the future.
