North Elementary Flooded After Pipe Bursts

Sep 21, 2015

The North Omak Elementary music room is undergoing repair after a water pipe burst last weekend.

Over the weekend of Sept. 12-13, a leak from an overhead water and air conditioning line damaged the music room at North, requiring the room to be gutted. A piano was also damaged and must be replaced. All the damage is insured.

JRCC Construction has already cleaned out the room and stripped away the damaged portions, and will be working this week on rebuilding and getting the room ready again for students. The work will take approximately six weeks.

Meanwhile, the music program continues in the Polaris Room at North.

The district will be seeking a qualified contractor to go to each building and inspect the water and HVAC lines to prevent any more similar situations occurring.

These and other concerns for aging infrastructure will be addressed by the newly formed facilities planning committee, comprised of district staff and community members. One goal of the committee is to form a long-range repair and replacement plan across the district.

More community members are welcome to join in the group, especially those engaged in the economic community. Anyone interested in becoming part of the planning process can contact the district at 509-826-0320.
