Okanogan Man Dies in Vehicle Fire

The man killed in a vehicle fire Tuesday morning in the Pleasant Valley area off Highway 20 has been identified as 82-year-old Neil T. Burnett, of Okanogan.

Sherriff Frank Rogers said his deputies, Lifeline Ambulane and Okanogan and Malott Fire responded to the scene near mile post 225 around 9:30 AM. Rogers said when they arrived they discovered the vehicle at the end of driveway, in the brush next to the creek, fully engulfed in flames.

Rogers said, Burnett did have health issues and had difficulties moving around. He said, "It appears that Mr. Burnett was driving down the driveway when his vehicle drifted off the driveway and became high centered on a hay bale in the brush near the creek by his home. The vehicle subsequently caught fire and Mr. Burnett was found in side.

Family members of Mr. Burnett have been notified.

Crews were able to contain to the vehicle and surrounding brush, no structures were threaten.
