May 06, 2013

The Omak school board announced the selection of Erik Swanson for the position of superintendent beginning July 1, 2013.   Swanson is currently from the Yakima School District, where he serves as principal for McKinley Elementary School.  Swanson’s experience includes numerous elementary, middle and high school leadership positions, both in the US and overseas.

Swanson was selected from a field of 21 completed applicants. These 21 initial applications were narrowed down to a strong field of five semi-finalists for preliminary interviews.  Wendell George, Omak School District chairperson, commented, “Swanson’s extensive experience and strong background in Common Core and the newly required teacher and principal evaluation systems were strong factors in his selection.” George continued, “The Omak board wishes to thank the Community Advisory Committee and those who turned out for the various candidate forums for their engagement and support.”

Swanson’s contract will be officially signed and voted on at the May 15 Omak School Board meeting.  He and his wife, Susan, will be moving to the Omak community later this spring or early summer.
