Omak Woman Killed in Car Accident

Sep 03, 2013

Early Monday morning, Okanogan County Deputies and Detectives responded to a one vehicle fatality accident near Fish Lake Road and Sinlahekin Road, approximately five to six miles north of Conconully.

Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers said the investigation is ongoing, but, he said, at this time we do know that three people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Rogers said, It appears that 2001 Ford Focus was traveling on the Sinlahekin Road approximately a mile south of Fish Lake Road when the driver came around a corner and went over the edge of the embankment and rolled. He said there is nothing at the scene to indicate speed was a factor.

Twenty-two year-old Carissa L. Amundson, of Omak was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.  Also in the vehicle was 19-year-old Garrett T. Peterson, who was still at the scene when Deputies arrived. Peterson, who had multiple injuries, including a head injury, was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital and then later to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee. The third person in the vehicle, 19-year-old Sophia J. Best, of Omak, was able to get out of the vehicle after the accident. She then climbed up the hill to the road and walked approximately two miles to the campground at Fish Lake where she was able to get help. Best was also transported to Mid-Valley Hospital with injuries.

Rogers said at this time we believe that Amundson was the driver at the time of the accident. It is not known if alcohol or drugs were involved.
