Quick Thinking Store Employee Foils Alcohol Theft by Minors

Jul 16, 2014

On Sunday evening, a Safeway employee reported a possible alcohol theft.  Two juvenile males were seen running out of the store and were suspected of taking alcohol with them.

Omak Police Officers responded and found two juvenile males who fit the description given by the employee.  After the officers made contact with them, the two admitted to stealing a half-gallon of Rum and a three quarter liter of Gin from Safeway.

Each juvenile now faces fines, time in juvenile detention and loss of their driver’s license for being a minor in possession, and Safeway is also pressing charges for theft.

Stacey Okland, with the Okanogan County Community Coalition said, “Safeway employees did the right thing by contacting police.” She said, “Alcohol, especially hard alcohol, can impact a young person quickly leading to alcohol poisoning.”

Okland said, “If you suspect someone of stealing alcohol or providing alcohol to minors please call 911.”
