Recent Lightning Caused Fires in Okanogan County

Aug 21, 2014

Tuesday, firefighters from Tonasket Ranger District responded to small fires that resulted from Monday night’s lightning storm.

A small fire in the Bannon Mountain area was burning in a current fuels treatment area.  Thanks to the thinning work that has occurred in the area, firefighters were successful in containing the fire at just over two acres.

Crews and engines also joined Washington Department of Natural Resources firefighters in locating and fighting other small fires along the eastern portion of Okanogan County around Wauconda and Fir Mountain.

Lightning holdover fires are common and firefighters are continuing to receive smoke reports.  So far today, they have responded to a fire on the backside of Bannon Mountain and are looking for a reported smoke in the Coco Mountain area.

To report a fire, please call 911.
