Renton Man Found Dead in Conconully Reservoir

Officials say the missing Renton man they had been looking for over the past several days was found dead in the upper reservoir near Conconully.

Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers said on Wednesday, several volunteers continued to search for 50-year old Christopher D. Campbell in Conconully area.

Campbell had last been seen on November 2nd at around 12:30 PM at the Sit'n Bull in Conconully. He had been camping in Okanogan County at Fish Lake and was due to be home and back to work by October 28th.

Roger s said, the County Search and Rescue along with Deputies used a boat to search various waterways in the area, and at about 1:30 PM Wednesday they found a broken tree limb and glass at the far north end of the upper reservoir of Conconully Lake.

He said, The boat patrol was able to get to the end of the lake and could see what appeared to be tire tracks at the bottom of a 40 foot embankment. As the boat was moving through the mill foil, oil appeared on the water surface.

Divers were called in and Campbell's vehicle in approximately 12 feet of water about 300 feet from end of the lake. Campbell's body was also located in his vehicle.

The Sheriff said, "It appears that Mr. Campbell had been returning to his camp at Fish Lake when something happened and he drove off the edge of road, went down the 40 foot embankment and sank in the lake."

Rogers said they were able to remove the vehicle from the lake around 4pm Wednesday. He said, an autopsy has been scheduled.
