RRAD Sponsors Lunch and Learn Workshop

Dec 04, 2014

Sometimes you run into someone who you suspect must be under the influence of something, because they’re acting oddly. Your suspicions might be right, but it might not be the influence of the usual suspects, alcohol or pot. It might actually be something you’d never expect, like hand sanitizer or bath salts.

Join the What’s Right? RRAD (Republic Reducing Alcohol and Drug use) Coalition for a lunchtime webinar, ?“They Took What?" and "How High Do They Look?" Identification and Treatment of Common Substance Ingestions conducted by Teri Moser Woo, Ph.D., RN, of Pacific Lutheran University. Dr. Moser will share the science behind K2/Spice, Salvia, MDMA, Bath Salts, Dextromethorphan, 2-CE, or even more rare practices like "Purell Shots" (i.e., consuming hand sanitizer), as well as what toxicity would look like with these substances.

Bring your lunch to the Republic Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, December 9th, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., to eat while viewing the webinar, sponsored by the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery and the College Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention. Participants who view the webinar at the RRAD location will receive a certificate of participation and there’s even a microwave to warm your lunch!

Lunch and Learn webinars are one of the ongoing community education efforts about underage drinking and drug abuse used by the RRAD Coalition to promote a safe community where youth are encouraged and empowered to choose to be alcohol and drug-free to pursue their dreams and realize their full potential.  The RRAD Coalition is funded by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services, Behavioral Health and Recovery under the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative. Anyone interested in becoming involved in the work of the coalition is invited to attend the monthly coalition meetings held the first Tuesday of each month at 11:00 a.m. at the Republic Presbyterian Church, 605 S. Keller Street or to contact Janine Koffel, Coalition Coordinator, at (509) 207-9174. Updates on coalition activities are also provided on the What’s Right? RRAD Coalition Facebook page.
