The St. Mary's Mission Fire burning on east of Omak has burned across more than 15 square miles, or 9600 acres, and threatens more than 50.

Fire spokesman Mark Grassel says the fire was 15 percent contained today.

More than 460 firefighters are on scene.

He says 54 residences are considered threatened, as well as dozens of outbuildings.

The fire that started Tuesday has burned two homes and several outbuildings and has led to the closure of the Pascal Sherman Indian School this week.

Grassel said level 3 evacuations are in place for the Mission Valley and French Valley, level 2 evacuations are in place for the Haley Creek area and level 1 evacuations are in place in the Kartar Valley and Timentwa Flats.

The Columbia River Road and St. Mary's Mission Road are closed.
