Updated: WSP troopers initially tweeted that five students and the bus driver suffered minor injuries. By 10:05 a.m. troopers updated their information and said 43 kids on the school bus had been transported for injuries.
One person was killed and eight people were injured, including students, in a school bus crash north of Orondo Thursday morning.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Darren Wright said the collision, which took place about 8:30 am, involved a box truck, passenger car and school bus for the Orondo School District.
According to the State Patrol, the collision, six miles north of Orondo, caused the closure of the highway between Orondo and the Chelan Falls turnoff. Motorists traveling between Omak and Wenatchee are being advised to use Highway 97A through Chelan. A WSDOT spokesman said the road should reopen at noon today.
Troopers say five students and the bus driver have minor injuries, two people in a semi-truck have serious injuries, and a car driver has died. The injured students have been taken to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
The cause of the collision is still unclear.
