Team Rubicon Assistance Available for Pateros, Neighboring Communities

Jul 30, 2014

While Team Rubicon, a veteran-led disaster relief group, has been tasked by the city of Pateros to manage its wildfire relief efforts; debris removal services are also available for neighboring communities, like Twisp and Methow.

Residents can apply for assistance at the Volunteer Reception Center at Pateros High School. Team Rubicon does not charge for its services.

Volunteers will sift through debris to recover personal items and valuables. If homeowners cannot be present during this work, found items will be safely secured for return. Debris will then be sorted and pushed to the curb.

In addition to requesting debris removal, residents can go to Pateros High School for meals (provided by the American Red Cross) or to volunteer. Relief items, like clothing, diapers, hygiene items, and cleaning supplies, are available at the school through Saturday. Beginning Monday, the relief items will be available at Neff’s Warehouse, Hwy 153, Pateros.

Plans are being finalized to open a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) that will serve as a “one-stop shop” where those affected can meet with representatives from government and nonprofit agencies for assistance.

Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to perform these vital services. Beyond disaster relief, Team Rubicon helps veterans find a renewed sense of purpose—vital as many return to civilian life after more than a decade of war.

The nonprofit was founded in the wake of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake by Jake Wood and William McNulty, both Marine veterans. It has grown from eight to 16,000 members with more than 65 operations under its belt, including Haiti, Superstorm Sandy, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

It’s been a busy year for Team Rubicon, with responses to tornadoes, floods and damaging storms across the country. To learn more about Team Rubicon’s mission visit www.teamrubiconusa.org.
