Train Derails North of Riverside

Mar 15, 2016

A train pulling 52 cars with two engines derailed just north of Riverside Monday afternoon.  Okanogan County Emergency Manager Maurice Goodall said there were no injuries, however the tracks are pretty torn up from the accident.

Goodall said it appears the ground liquefied under the tracks causing the derailment.

Several of the overturned cars were carrying Calcium Carbonate from the site near Janis Bridge. Goodall said it is non-toxic so there is no threat to area residents.

The train was traveling at low speed at the time of the incident.  No official word on how long it will take to repair that part of the tracks.  Unofficially, it was stated that it could take a couple of weeks.
