Tribes Get Law Enforcement Contract from Reclamation

Mar 28, 2014

The Colville Confederated Tribes was awarded a contract to provide security and law-enforcement services for federal Bureau of Reclamation lands and facilities east of the Columbia River.

The contract includes Grand Coulee Dam’s Third Powerplant, Downriver Trail and dam tour building, according to a news release from the agency.

The contract begins April 1. The tribes will also assist the agency’s Reclamation Security Response Force in case of emergency.

Grand Coulee Dam, the nation’s biggest power producer and integral piece of the Columbia Basin irrigation project, produces enough electricity to supply more than one million homes in an average water year. It also provides about one-quarter of the total power generation for the Federal Columbia River Power System.
