Wildfire Season Is Here…Be Ready: Attend a Firewise Workshop May 17 in Twisp

May 08, 2014

Okanogan Conservation District is holding a Firewise workshop in Twisp on Saturday May 17 from 10 am-12 pm. The workshop will be at the TwispWorks conference room, 502 S. Glover Street, Twisp, WA.  The workshop is provided in partnership with Washington Department of Natural Resources, Okanogan County, and Okanogan Fire District 6. Local fire managers will discuss ways to prepare one's home and property for wildfire, and how to react when a wildfire is in the area. Light refreshments will be provided.

Here’s what people are saying about our Firewise workshops: “I'd like to tell you how much our group enjoyed the workshop in Twisp yesterday.  I go to as many of these workshops as I can and it seems I learn something new each time.  [The presenters] did a terrific job and we really appreciate your time and the effort you put into these workshops.”

The national Firewise Communities program is an interagency program designed to encourage local solutions for wildfire safety. The program offers simple ways community members can work together to prevent their properties from becoming fuel for a wildfire.  Residents can reduce the risk of their home's ignition by simply modifying their homes and immediate surroundings. With adequate planning and cooperation among homeowners, public agencies, and community leaders, wildfires can occur without disastrous loss of life, property, and resources. In Okanogan County, the Firewise program is coordinated by the Okanogan Conservation District in cooperation with Washington Department of Natural Resources.
