Dr. Kathy Lofy Named Washington State Health Officer

(AP) - The Washington state Department of Health says Dr. Kathy Lofy has been selected as the state health officer.

Lofy has been filling in as interim health officer since Jan. 1 after the retirement of Dr. Maxine Hayes at the end of last year.

The state health officer is the state's top public health doctor. Duties include advising the governor and the secretary of health on issues ranging from chronic disease prevention to emergency response.
