Firewise Workshop April 27 in Pateros

Apr 19, 2018

Okanogan Conservation District, in partnership with Douglas Okanogan Fire District 15, will hold a Firewise workshop on Friday April 27 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the Pateros Fire Station, 191 Industrial Way. This workshop will be immediately following the Pateros Arbor Day Celebration at Memorial Park.

Presenters from the conservation district and local fire and emergency agencies will discuss ways to prepare one's home and property for wildfire, and how to react when a wildfire is in the area. Attendees will learn about the Firewise Communities USA program and how to team up with neighbors to earn Firewise recognition for their communities.

The workshop is free and light refreshments will be provided. Participants who bring a friend or neighbor will receive bonus tickets for Firewise door prizes.

The national Firewise Communities program is an interagency program designed to encourage local solutions for wildfire safety. The program offers simple ways community members can work together to prevent their properties from becoming fuel for a wildfire.  Residents can reduce the risk of their home's ignition by simply modifying their homes and immediate surroundings. With adequate planning and cooperation among homeowners, public agencies, and community leaders, wildfires can occur without disastrous loss of life, property, and resources. In Okanogan County, the Firewise program is coordinated by the Okanogan Conservation District in cooperation with Washington Department of Natural Resources.
