Governor’s Office seeking nominations for new performance measures coordinating committee

Apr 24, 2014

The Governor’s Office is seeking nominations for a stakeholder committee that will consider and recommend statewide standards for future health care purchasing in Washington state.

The Performance Measures Coordinating Committee, which will be chaired by Health Care Authority Director Dorothy Teeter, is being created under Engrossed Second Substitute House Bill 2572. It will inform public and private health care purchasing, and will propose benchmarks to track costs and improvements in health outcomes.

“The committee’s recommendations will be key as we continue to consistently improve care throughout our state,” said Teeter. “It will complement other efforts already under way to raise the bar on health care system performance by tracking quality, costs and improvements in health outcomes.”

The governor’s health policy team worked closely with the Health Care Authority and 11 other state agencies on development of the State Heath Care Innovation Plan, which is addressed by ESSHB 2572.

The committee members will include:

  •  Academic experts on health care measurement
  • Consumers
  • Employers (large and small)
  • Federally-recognized Tribes
  • Health plans
  • Hospitals
  • Patients
  • Physicians
  • Providers (non-hospital and non-physician)
  • State agencies

The committee’s composition will follow parameters established in ESSHB 2572, but does not exclude individuals representing other categories. At a minimum, the committee will include 12 to 20 individuals statewide.

Nominees should complete a one-page form that is available online. Instructions are on the form. Self-nominations and nominations of others are both welcome, but either requires a completed form for each nominee.

To locate the form, go to the State Health Care Innovation Plan’s How to Participate page and click on the Nomination Form link. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on May 7, 2014.
