Maycumber Appointed to Short’s former 7th District state House seat

Feb 02, 2017

Jacquelin Maycumber, Shelly Short’s former legislative assistant, was appointed to fill the seat in the state House of Representatives that Short vacated this week after being appointed to the state Senate.

Maycumber was selected by the boards of commissioners from Spokane, Pend Oreille, Stevens, Ferry and Okanogan counties in a 12-3 vote Wednesday evening.

Okanogan County Commissioner Chris Branch, Pend Oreille County Commissioner Steve Kiss and Spokane County Commissioner Shelly O’Quinn cast their votes for John Smith, who was appointed to the Senate seat Short now holds in 2013 and served for one session before losing in an election to Brian Dansel.

The third candidate, conservative activist Larry Stuckney, did not receive any votes.

Maycumber will serve this session in the House and then will be required to run for the seat in the November election.

Maycumber will be assigned committees and an office soon.  Her phone number will be former Rep. Shelly Short’s office number, 360-786-7908, and her email address is Jacquelin.Maycumber@leg.wa.gov
