Sen. Bob Morton, R-Kettle Falls, was honored recently as a Guardian of Small Business for his support during the 2011-12 legislative sessions. The award was presented by the National Federation of Independent Business to lawmakers with a proven track record of voting in support of small and independent businesses on key legislation.

"I am honored to be recognized by the NFIB and I am proud to be a small-business supporter in the Legislature," Morton said. "Small businesses are the engine that drives our economy. They create the most new jobs and provide nearly 70 percent of the jobs in our state."

Lawmakers who vote in support of small businesses at least 80 percent of the time are given the Guardian of Small Business award.
