Shortened Timeframe to Apply for Forest Service Summer Jobs

Dec 05, 2014

US Forest Service managers have implemented a new centralized hiring process for temporary or seasonal jobs in national forests throughout Oregon and Washington.  The new process started on December 1, 2014.

There are three phases to the new process.

  • Phase 1 hiring includes all temporary fire-related jobs and any other temporary positions requiring hiring prior to May 3, 2015.  The time period for people to submit applications for all fire-related temporary jobs is January 6-12, 2015.
  • Phase 2 involves all non-fire related temporary positions not addressed in Phase 1.  Job seekers will need to submit applications for non-fire related temporary jobs on February 4-10, 2015.
  • Phase 3 is the “catch all” period, for positions that were not filled during phase 1 or phase 2.  This phase is intended to fill positions that were not filled during the first two phases of the process.

“The phased approach allows us to expedite the review and selection process for thousands of temporary positions anticipated to be filled in Oregon and Washington this summer,” said Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Deputy Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken.

Within the next week or so, a list of all the temporary fire-related jobs that need to be filled this summer on the Okanogan-Wenatchee NF will be posted on the Forest Service Albuquerque Service Center web site at https://fsoutreach.gdcii.com/Outreach.

“We know many people will have questions about this new process,” Kuiken said.  “It is something new to all of us, so there will be a bit of a learning curve for everyone involved.  The important thing for applicants to remember is they have to apply for specific jobs during these explicit time periods.”
