Small wildfire burning northwest of Lucerne

Jun 30, 2015

A 2-acre lightning caused wildfire is burning in timber on extremely steep and rocky terrain in Wolverine Creek drainage approximately 3 miles northwest of Lucerne.  Smoke from the fire is visible from Lucerne and also Lake Chelan.

“The fire ignited from the lightning storm that passed through the area on Monday morning,” said Chelan District Ranger Kari Grover-Wier.  “Due to the very steep and dangerous terrain we have been using helicopter water drops to check the spread of the fire.”

Four rappeller firefighters sent to the fire on Monday are assessing the best firefighting actions to take.  Helicopter water drops will continue as needed and as resources are available.

For more information about the fire please contact the Chelan Ranger District at 509-682-4900.
