Hearings are scheduled Thursday in Olympia on bills that would put age restrictions on tanning beds in Washington.

HB 1363 would require tanning bed operators to be licensed by the state Department of Health. To cover the cost of the licensing program, the state would charge an annual fee of up to $500 per operator.

Additionally, under the bill, minors under the age of 18 would not be allowed to use the tanning beds unless "the person has a prescription from a physician."

The Senate version, SB 5593 states that tanning operators may not allow a person under the age of 16 to use a tanning device. That will is also being heard in committee on Thursday.
